Future-Proof IT Architectures for Public Transport
As a partner of innovative technologies such as ITxPT, Arcobel supports the transition to open, standardized IT architectures in public transport. This approach promotes interoperability between systems, reduces maintenance costs, and makes large-scale updates easier to deploy. Through our combination of industrial reliability and AI-driven insights, we help transport companies, governments, and system integrators realize smart, scalable, and sustainable mobility solutions.

AI-Ready Technology According to the Strictest Standards
For applications on and along the railways, Arcobel develops robust, certified systems that meet international standards such as EN 50155. This hardware forms the foundation for, among other things, passenger information, onboard internet connectivity, and predictive maintenance of rolling stock. Using AI algorithms, failures can be predicted before they occur, significantly increasing the reliability and safety of transport networks.

Computer Hardware in Public Transport
For one of our partners active in public transport in a large European city, we now have several hardware platforms running in buses, trams, and the subway. Challenges such as ignition control and a clear, easy-to-read display for the driver have been successfully solved. Systems in these markets often need to be extremely compact and withstand shocks, vibrations, and temperature fluctuations. What this client also values is our ability to translate technical questions into solutions and provide them with advice. The ability to provide first and second-line technical support and offer local support is also important for this client.
The following types of hardware were used for this:
Certified EN50155 Seat Entertainment Display
For a railway company, we developed an 8.5" capacitive touch LCD multimedia entertainment display, integrated into the seat, together with one of our partners. These screens are offered to passengers in first class. All equipment used in commercial trains must comply with various international standards, such as IEC 60571, EN50155, EN 50121-3-2. We have the expertise and knowledge in this field and can guide our customers accordingly. We delivered a total of 495 fully tested Seat Entertainment Displays to this customer. The entire process, from idea to delivery of a fully tested final prototype, was completed in just two months.

Knowledge and Experience of Arcobel for Railway System Solutions
Our client develops systems capable of providing broadband internet in high-speed trains. They selected us as their hardware integration partner in 2006. The idea was that passengers in high-speed trains could read emails and establish a secure connection to their company's network. By offering this to business travelers, high-speed train companies aimed to compete better with local airlines.
Systems used in commercial trains must be railway certified and available for an uptime of up to 15 years. We advised our client on the hardware selection. Ultimately, we delivered a complete multi-vendor system, with customized hardware and firmware for smooth operation, and assisted them in the certification process. The core of the system is a modular 19" CompactPCI-based system. Three different configurations were delivered: a connectivity rack, a content server, and a storage server. The access points were built from scratch and assembled in our production facilities. All systems underwent a factory test performed by Arcobel.
Computers in Cars to Map the Environment
For one of our partners who captures the environment using advanced camera technology and makes it available via Google Streetview, we build customized industrial computers. We select industrial motherboards and high-quality storage options so the computer systems can reliably do their work.
